80?!?! Seriously?!?!?

My Dad turned 80 on Oct 25th.  I can hardly believe it!  He's 80! That's just INSANE!

My brother and I decided that 80 was so important that we needed to have a big party.

So party we did!

We invited about 40 couples/families and about 60 people came to the party.  It was AWESOME!
It was really great to see so many people come to celebrate with my Dad.

There was lots of food and lots of fun.

But what was MOST important to me was the cake.  And not just because I like cake.

I required that there be a cake big enough to hold 80 candles.
I figure the guy is 80 and he's earned 80 candles!

So a cake with 80 candles was presented

and all 80 candles were lit.

Look at the glow.  And it was so warm!
And that's my Dad surveying the spectacle.
I just loved this moment.

And the old guy even managed to blow them out!

Happy Birthday Dad!
I love you and hope you live to see 90!
Maybe we'll do another big bash!

Soccer Home Stretch

I really enjoy soccer.  I like watching it.  I love watching the kids learn skills and become more aggressive.  I like seeing them get excited about playing well.  But at some point, I get tired of rushing out the door after school and driving all over town for games and practices.

We are in the home stretch!

Canon finished up this past weekend.  He had a tournament and the team played the best they have all season.  They tied one game and won their second.

Kieron has 2 more games.  One this week and one next week.

I'll be glad when it is done.  I'm not one of those parents who has her kids in 8 million activities.   I look forward to some down-time.  I look forward to taking a break from activities and just focusing on school and family.  But both kids have repeatedly asked about karate lessons.  I'm so cheap - I keep saying... maybe... we'll see...  I so don't want to pay for it!

LOVE YOU

I'm in love.  I may have to divorce my husband and marry this furniture set.  It is PERFECT.  I probably should not have spent the money on it... but since I saved like $1,000,000 on the loft beds that the husband built for the kids' bedroom I figured I was good to go.  I have sat in a hideous pink chair that pushes my head forward and causes me great pain in my neck.  The pink chair had to go.

Whilst walking through Target one day I saw this little gem.  Then I convinced myself that I couldn't afford it and didn't need it.  Then I felt sad.  Then I felt guilty for wanting more more more.  Then I told the husband about it and he said "buy it" (cuz that's what he does).  Then I talked myself out of it again because it costs money and I didn't NEED it.  Then I felt sad again because I really wanted it.  By the time I showed it to the husband and he said we should get it... it was not in stock at Target.  So I went online and guess what?!?  It wasn't in stock online either.  But guess what?!?  You could buy TWO chairs but not one.  The double pack was in stock but if you wanted one chair you were screwed.  Talked to the husband and he said "order it" (cuz that's what he does).  So with great guilt about buying something I didn't NEED and that cost money, I ordered it.  And it came.  And I'm in love.  IT is comfortable and doesn't push my head forward.  You can slouch down and snuggle up.  I wanted to write this post last night, but I didn't want to sit in my hard computer chair.  I wanted to sit in my NEW chair.  I love it.

WALK-A-THON

Today was our school's Walk-A-Thon fundraiser.  I love this event (even if it is only the 2nd year) because it means my kids don't have to sell crappy wrapping paper!  Yes, they still have to ask for money from people but they aren't peddling any crap.  I like that.

Plus it is a total bonus that they get to have a fun, healthy, active day.  No one tells them "don't run" or "sit still" or "be quiet" for almost 2 whole hours!  This is something that is often lacking at school.  Don't get me wrong, I'm the first to say school is a place for learning and kids should be able to sit still.  But moving around is good too.  Don't get me started on the lack of PE or art or music in a school these days...

But today was a great day.  The sun was shining.  The day was beautiful!  And the whole school was out walking for an hour and a half!  It was awesome!

"Can't talk now mom, gotta walk."

"Come on Wade, let's hop!"

Still going... like the Energizer Bunny.

This is his "Mom don't take my picture" face.

There may be things in life that frustrate me or make me crazy or just make be sad... But this Walk-A-Thon day is an incredible day.  I love seeing the whole school working together and having a great time.  I especially love seeing my kids be a part of that!
